Local Markets in China
Local markets in China are very similar to farmers' markets. Vendors sell vegetables or fruits that are directly bought from farmers. Mostly the prices in local markets are cheaper than those in supermarkets. Unlike supermarkets, where you can only buy goods and pay at cashiers;in local markets, you can bargain with the sellers and get an even cheaper price.
Moreover, the vegetable and meat in local markets are more fresh than those in supermarkets. Each day, the passenger flow volume is huge, so vendors would usually restock everyday. On the other hand, supermarkets have fewer consumers each day and they may restock every week.
Based on these reasons, most people would go to local markets to buy basic goods, such as vegetables, meat and fruit. Local markets are crucial to Chinese people's daily lives. Another dominant form of small business
is petty dealers, which is also prevalent in each city and town.
