The banning law
-the ban on free plastic bags
Starting from June 1st, 2008, China bans free sale of plastic bags nationwide. In all supermarkets, markets and retail stores, no free plastic bags should be provided to the customers.
In one of my bibliography article, data shows that by 2008, the number of daily use of plastic bags reach 30 billion. This is understandable considering that China is one of the largest nations (in terms of population). Among the 30 billion plastic bags, 10 billion of them are used in local markets to fill vegetables and fruits. Though the plastic-bag ban is a ban on plastic bags, white pollution not only includes plastic bags. Other disposable products also play a significant role in white pollution. |
